Five Kitchen-Backsplash Tile Tips

Tip #1: Consider the size of the space

You’ll want to figure out the size of the space so you can install the correct amount of tile, but you’ll also want to consider the size of the other elements around your backsplash. You can simply multiply the height by the width of the backsplash area to find the square footage. We suggest you add 10 percent to that number for extra material.

What size are the cabinets? How large is the countertop? Are there any other patterns near or incorporated in your kitchen backsplash? You want to choose a tile style and material that will complement everything else in your kitchen.

Tip #2: Target the focal points

The two most popular focal points in kitchens are the spaces above the sink and the range. If you want to show off a creative, stylistic tile pattern, focus on these two areas, and you’ll surely get an abundance of compliments from guests.

Tip #3: Expand the size of your kitchen

Although your kitchen space is a set square footage, you can visually expand the room if you wrap the backsplash around the entire room, extending it past the sink, range, and countertops. This will make the kitchen look larger than it actually is.

Tip #4: Choose your style

Whether you want a classic look or a contemporary feel, you can find what you’re searching for at Transworld Tile. We suggest you consult a designer to create a style plan so each feature in your kitchen intentionally compliments or contrasts one another.

Tip #5: Consider each tile’s maintenance needs

Glass tile is stunning, but it’s on the more expensive side. Ceramic is elegant and easy to keep clean. Natural stone is beautiful, but it requires an annual sealing. Take into consideration the maintenance needs of the tile material you choose to ensure you’re committed to it.
